FOOTBALL & CHEER
BUILDING STRONG MINDS, STRONG HEARTS, AND STRONG BODIES

New Families
We know joining a new sports program can feel overwhelming. That’s why we created this guide to help you understand what to expect and feel confident from day one. If you still have questions, please contact us.
What to Expect

1
Welcoming, team-focused environment
From the moment you join FPPW, you become part of a supportive, team‑centered community. Our coaches, volunteers, and families work together to create an environment where every athlete feels included, encouraged, and valued. Whether your child is brand‑new or returning for another season, they’ll be welcomed with open arms and a strong sense of belonging.
2
Clear communication throughout the season
We know how important it is for families to stay informed. That’s why we prioritize clear, consistent communication from preseason through playoffs. You’ll receive regular updates on schedules, practices, events, and any changes that come up, so you always know what’s happening and what to expect.
3
Focus on safety, development, and fun
Your child's safety and growth are at the heart of everything we do. Our certified coaches teach age-appropriate skills, emphasize proper technique, and create a positive environment where athletes can learn, improve, and build confidence. Most importantly, we make sure every practice and game is filled with teamwork, excitement, and fun.
Viper Football
Viper Football offers a place for young athletes to grow on and off the field. Our program focuses on teaching proper and safe football skills while building teamwork, responsibility, discipline, time management, mental toughness, and fairness.
We celebrate academic achievement, encourage strong character, and model sportsmanship through respect and ethical behavior — all while making sure our players have fun every step of the way. Families are an essential part of our success, and we welcome parent volunteers in roles like coaching, team support, game‑day operations, and media.
Players ages 5–12 (as of 7/14/2026) are eligible to join the FPPW Viper family.

Viper Cheer
Viper Cheer offers a positive, empowering environment where young athletes can grow in confidence, skill, and character. Our program focuses on teaching proper and safe cheer techniques for both game‑day spirit and competition routines, while building teamwork, responsibility, discipline, time management, mental toughness, and fairness.
We celebrate academic excellence, encourage strong character, and model sportsmanship through respect and ethical behavior — all while making sure our athletes have fun and feel supported.
Cheer squads are available for ages 5–12 (as of July 14, 2026), with Mitey Mite and older teams able to participate in fundamental cheer, full competition, or a modified competition season based on team preference.

Uniform & Equipment
In addition to the items included with registration, players will need to provide their own essential football equipment for practices and games. This includes shoulder pads, a properly fitted helmet, mouthguard, practice jersey, practice pants with pads, cleats, and a water bottle. Families may also choose to purchase optional items like gloves based on player preference.
Vikn Sports will be on site during our required equipment fitting day to provide expert guidance on proper fit, helping ensure every athlete is safe, comfortable, and ready for the season.

Time Commitment and Expectations
Our athletes are expected to show up with a growth mindset, a competitive spirit, and ready to play. We lift each other up on and off the field, train with purpose, play with intensity, and celebrate the joy of the game every step of the way.
Because this is both a developmental program and a competitive team, consistent practice attendance is essential — growth comes from time, reps, and commitment. If transportation challenges or schedule conflicts come up, we simply ask that families communicate early so we can support your athlete and keep the team moving forward together.
Critical milestones that support safety and player certification will be communicated by coaches and team parents to ensure the wellbeing and readiness of all athletes.
Football teams will typically practice 2-3 days per week and have one game on Saturday in the Austin area.

Coaching Philosophy & Safety
Our coaching staff is safety‑first, highly experienced, and deeply committed to the wellbeing of every athlete. With backgrounds in both playing and coaching at multiple levels, they understand what it takes to develop young athletes the right way — with proper technique, smart progression, and a focus on long‑term health.
Each season, our coaches are dedicated to creating a supportive, competitive, and fun environment where every player can grow, contribute, and thrive. Coaches complete annual coaching certifications, each team is provided access to emergency medical equipment, and Hill Country Pop Warner games have a certified trainer on site.

Viper Community Involvement
FPPW is deeply woven into the Viper community, giving our athletes countless opportunities to show their spirit. From the season‑opening pep rally to Future Viper Night under the stadium lights, our players and cheerleaders are celebrated as part of the greater Vandegrift family. Athletes also join in school traditions like the Homecoming parade, and many wear their uniforms to school before game day — a fun way to build excitement, confidence, and connection throughout the community.
